Toothpaste was first used by Ancient Egyptians and teeth whitening agents were used as far back as ancient Egypt and Rome. Egyptians came up with a mixture of pulverized pumice and wine vinegar, they applied it with a chew stick to their teeth. The Romans thought teeth could be whitened with human urine. Ammonia, which is found in urine, is recognized as a chemical that cleans the enamel on teeth.
Now there are several different types of teeth whitening methods available. You can either visit your dentist for a one-hour whitening treatment or they can bleach the teeth. At home solutions include a whitening toothpaste that should be applied to teeth and teeth whitening strips, that are pressed on then pulled off the enamel (a lot better than the Roman’s urine treatment).
